Applause filled the room for Aisling Camps as the budding doyenne of knitwear unveiled her first runway collection at New York Fashion Week, presenting at the Starrett-Lehigh Building in Chelsea. Set against a sunlit 12th floor, the moment carried a sense of arrival — both for the designer and for a collection defined by quiet confidence and uplift.

Camps’ work communicated most powerfully through technique. Her knitwear, much of it hand-loomed, explored the tension between precision and ease, merging sculptural construction with a relaxed, wearable sensibility. Subtle nods to her Trinidad roots surfaced in the textures and rhythm of the pieces, lending the collection a personal undercurrent without overt signalling.

Adaptability played a key role throughout. Streamlined tank dresses and tops were engineered with soft, movable straps that allowed the wearer to shift proportions and styling with minimal effort. In contrast, more experimental pieces — like a heavily textured hooded vest and matching skirt crafted through a shredded bias-weave method — introduced dimension and irregularity, echoing forms found in the natural world.

Nature’s influence extended beyond technique into colour. With her studio increasingly resembling a dense, plant-filled environment, Camps translated that immersion into a layered palette of greens, ranging from muted olive to vivid chartreuse and deep fern. The effect was immersive rather than decorative, wrapping the collection in a tonal story that felt grounded and restorative.
