+39 Luar Spring 2026 Ready-to-Wear
Designer Raul Lopez of Luar turned to his Dominican roots this season, channeling the defiant spirit of Carnival for his collection “La Fantasia.” Rooted in the festival’s history of costumes as satire against European colonisers, Lopez reimagined its energy through striking tailoring and exuberant ornamentation.
Opening looks in severe black velvet coats and sharp blazers symbolised colonisers, before joy erupted in sequinned, feathered creations modelled by icons like Debra Shaw. Lopez partnered with Dominican artisans to craft intricate beading, fur-like plastic strips, and headpieces, while jewellery featured local amber and rare Larimar.
Colour punctuated the lineup — cobalt bustiers, slinky zippered pants, and oversized coats — alongside Luar signatures like bold shoulders, sculpted leather, and oversized denim. His cult handbags and feather-trimmed footwear added commercial punch.
While many designers pulled back from political messaging this season, Lopez leaned in — offering a show rich with heritage, craftsmanship, and community. With Solange Knowles and Lourdes Leon in the front row and fans crowding the venue, Luar delivered one of New York’s few runway moments that fused fashion with message and spectacle.
